Washington, DC – Defend Democracy Project and Public Policy Polling released new national polling today to gauge the public’s reaction to the January 6th investigation and the ongoing threat posed to democracy by MAGA Republicans. The poll shows that voters across the country believe that MAGA Republicans, not just the former president, are responsible for an ongoing criminal conspiracy to overturn elections that they lose.

Today’s poll reaffirms public support for the investigation by 20-points and public concern about the threat from Trump and his allies at ~70%.

“The House Select Committee’s bipartisan investigation has proven that Trump and MAGA Republicans are responsible for the attack on January 6th and the ongoing conspiracy to take away our right to pick who leads us. It is clear that American people across the country know this too,” said Defend Democracy Project Communications Director, Nicole Haley. “Donald Trump and those complicit must be held accountable for their actions in order to put a stop to the ongoing threat to our most fundamental rights and freedoms.”

The polling results also show that:

    • Americans support the investigation by the House Select Committee by a 20-point margin (55-35) and a majority (64%) say the January 6th investigation is important to protecting democracy.
    • 72% of voters say politicians overturning election results when they don’t win is a major threat.
    • 69% of voters say politicians who lie and spread conspiracies to undermine election results are a major threat.
    • 71% are concerned (with 55% very concerned) about Trump and his allies spreading conspiracies regarding voter fraud in the 2020 election, even after Trump’s lawyers and advisors told them there was no widespread fraud.
    • And more…
