Explosive Tape Reveals Kevin McCarthy Lied When He Said He Didn’t Push For Trump To Resign

  • Washington Post: Audio Contradicts Mccarthy’s Claim That He Didn’t Push For Trump To Resign: House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) discussed urging President Donald Trump to resign on a phone call with Republican leaders in the wake of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, according to a recording published Thursday by the New York Times. The 1½-minute audio clip from Jan. 10, 2021, was published after McCarthy disputed a report earlier Thursday that he and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) had privately pledged to push Trump out of politics following the Capitol attack by a pro-Trump mob.

While He Was Searching For “Voter Fraud” And Pushing To Overturn The Election, Mark Meadows Was Simultaneously Registered To Vote In Three States

  • Washington Post: Fact Checker: Mark Meadows Was Simultaneously Registered To Vote In Three States: After Donald Trump lost the presidential election, falsely claiming election fraud, Meadows became senior partner at the Conservative Partnership Institute (CPI), which promotes “election integrity” efforts. The organization’s “citizen’s guide” urges activists to determine that the registrations of their neighbors are legal by checking on “whether voters have moved, or if the registrations are PO Boxes, commercial addresses or vacant lots” and then “obtaining evidence: photos of commercial buildings? Vacant lots?” and “securing affidavits from current residents that a registered voter has moved.” Voter-list maintenance is one of the dividing lines in American politics. Republicans argue that if voter-registration records are not regularly purged and updated, election fraud can take place. Democrats push back that too many voter-list purges are conducted haphazardly, removing eligible voters who don’t learn they are no longer listed until they show up to vote. Now it turns out that until last week, Meadows was simultaneously registered to vote in three different states — North Carolina, Virginia and South Carolina — according to state records obtained by The Fact Checker.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Faces Disqualifcation Hearing Today

  • CNN: January 6 To Take Center Stage At Disqualification Hearing For Marjorie Taylor Greene:  A potentially precedent-setting disqualification hearing will kick off Friday in an Atlanta courtroom to determine if Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia is constitutionally barred from running for reelection because of her role in the January 6 insurrection. Greene is expected to be called as a witness during the marathon hearing — making her the first lawmaker to testify under oath about their involvement in the insurrection. The outcome will reverberate beyond Georgia, because similar challenges are pending against other Republican officials and could be lodged against former President Donald Trump if he runs again in 2024. The case resolves around a Civil War-era provision of the Fourteenth Amendment, which says any American official who takes an oath to uphold the Constitution is disqualified from holding any future office if they “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.” But how this applies to today is a hotly debated legal question.

Trump’s Election Conspiracy Theories Are Influencing Races For Secretary of State And AG In Michigan

  • Associated Press: Trump Sways Convention Races For Michigan AG, Elections Jobs: Former President Donald Trump’s extraordinary effort to mold Republicans’ 2022 tickets will be put to the test this weekend in Michigan, where thousands of party activists will endorse candidates, including in a contentious attorney general’s race. Trump, who continues to levy false claims about his 2020 loss in the swing state, is clear about his intentions. Come November, he wants to oust Democratic officials who ensured the results stayed intact and replace them with allies Matthew DePerno and Kristina Karamo, political newcomers who are running for attorney general and secretary of state, respectively. “This choice is not just about 2022. This is about ensuring the state of Michigan cannot be stolen from Republicans in 2024 or ever again,” Trump said Wednesday in a call with DePerno backers. His preferred slate for the state’s top law enforcement and election jobs is drawing criticism, however, within a wing of the GOP that views the candidates as unelectable in the fall and is frustrated that state party leaders have openly backed them rather than be neutral.

Wisconsin Election “Audit” Attorney Seeks To Determine Whether Municipal Employees Are Democrats Or Republicans

  • Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: As He Keeps Tabs On Public Workers, Gableman Contends Milwaukee Employee Is A Democrat Because She Plays Video Games, Wears Nose Ring: Assembly Republican attorney Michael Gableman is probing the backgrounds of public employees and contractors working on elections to determine their political leanings, including one who he believes is a Democrat because she lives with her boyfriend, loves snakes, plays video games and has a nose ring. Gableman’s tally of how he perceives others’ political views was included in a tranche of documents he quietly posted online after getting sued under the state’s open records law. Gableman, a former state Supreme Court justice, has been conducting a review of the 2020 election at taxpayer expense for Assembly Republicans since last summer. The latest disclosure about his work prompted one of his fellow Republicans to renew her call for him to shut down his review.  “I am so over Michael Gableman. He’s not right,” said state Sen. Kathy Bernier, a Lake Hallie Republican who leads the Senate Elections Committee.
