Washington, D.C. – Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene decided to use Presidents Day weekend, a holiday celebrating the best of our country’s leaders as President Biden becomes the first president since Lincoln to visit an active war zone in order to stand up for freedom abroad, to call for a “national divorce” between red and blue states. In response, Defend Democracy Project Communications Director, Nicole Haley, said the following:
“Marjorie Taylor Greene’s dangerous anti-American rhetoric needs to be universally condemned. Our leaders need to bring our country together, not tear us apart. This anti-democracy statement is even more alarming given her newly elevated position in the GOP-led House of Representatives. As President Biden continues to call for bipartisanship and unity, Marjorie Taylor Greene and MAGA Republicans want to divide our country. Her comments are especially dangerous given her position on the House Homeland Security Committee. If Kevin McCarthy had a spine, Marjorie Taylor Greene would not have any committee assignments right now anyway. These latest comments further prove how dangerous it is to give someone like her power.”
