Washington, D.C. – Today, Donald Trump used his personal social media company to say he should either be declared the winner of the 2020 election or a new election should be held immediately. In response, Defend Democracy Project Communications Director, Nicole Haley, said the following:
“This has been Donald Trump’s goal all along: ensuring he has the final say over elections, not the American people. Long before January 6th, he and MAGA Republicans conspired to overturn the results of an election they knew they lost, finally culminating in the incitement of a violent attack on the Capitol and they’ve not stopped since. Nearly two years after he lost, Trump is still demanding that the facts of his loss be ignored, the voters’ choices are set aside, and to be “declared” the winner. His meltdown comes only a day after Senator Lindsey Graham called for violence if Trump receives any accountability for his crimes. Anyone who refuses to condemn Donald Trump and his blatantly criminal conspiracy is just as complicit.”
