Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, Talking Points Memo released thousands of text messages from Trump Chief of Staff, Mark Meadows, who was in direct correspondence with people who were all central in the plot to overturn the 2020 election – an election Donald Trump and Mark Meadows knew they lost. In response, Defend Democracy Project Communications Director Nicole Haley released the following statement.
“The 34 Members of Congress exposed in the text messages are the very people who will hold key positions in the MAGA Republican-led majority of the next House of Representatives. These people have taken an oath to defend our Constitution, but are the same people who engaged in a conspiracy to overthrow the constitution just two years ago, and the same people who didn’t bat an eye when Donald Trump called for the termination of the Constitution just two weeks ago.
“While the American voters may have voted to reject MAGA extremism just last month, our House of Representatives is still filled with MAGA, Trump-loving Republicans, who will stop at nothing to push their radical agenda onto the American people. The threat posed by MAGA Republicans has not ended. It has only grown and we will continue to see the same baseless attacks used so they can get their way.”
