Washington, D.C. – This evening at 8 pm EST, President Biden is set to deliver a speech calling out MAGA Republicans for the threat they pose to our democracy and our country.
“This past summer will prove to be a turning point for America,” said Defend Democracy Project Communications Director Nicole Haley. “The January 6th Committee laid out the truth of Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans’ criminal conspiracy to overturn the will of the people. Donald Trump’s mounting legal problems have been met with calls for violence from the right. And Republicans all over the country are fighting to take away our most fundamental rights, like our reproductive rights and the right to pick who leads us.
“While President Biden lays out a vision of a country where we can work together to overcome our challenges, Donald Trump is publicly admitting to financially supporting January 6 rioters and vowing to pardon them if he somehow becomes president once more. The contrast could not be more clear: while President Biden has vowed to fight Trump-led extremism, the former president will stop at nothing to consolidate power for his own personal gain.
“Trump must be held responsible for the criminal conspiracy to overturn the election he knew he lost and must stop promoting political violence in order to evade accountability. Anyone who doesn’t condemn this violence is just as complicit as the MAGA Republicans who push it.”
