Washington, DC – Today, the House Select Committee to investigate January 6th released their final report on the events surrounding the attack on the Capitol by supporters of Donald Trump revealing even more damning details on the attack and Donald Trump’s role.
“The hard work of the bipartisan January 6th Committee has proven that Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans committed crimes and incited a violent mob to try to overturn the will of the people – all while they knew they actually lost the election,” said Defend Democracy Project Communications Director Nicole Haley. “And this final report reveals even more information including how foreign adversaries took advantage of Trump’s election disinformation.
“Donald Trump and his fellow MAGA Republicans who were involved in the attack on the Capitol must be held accountable. They have acted as if they are above the law for far too long, and are continuing to try to evade responsibility, as evidenced by their pathetic attempt to deflect blame from themselves by releasing a competing report riddled with lies and omissions. Their desperation is proof enough that the January 6th Committee has done its job, and done its job well.
“Now it is up to the Justice Department and courts to hold Donald Trump and the other participants in the violent conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election accountable. The House Ethics Committee must also review the complaints about Kevin McCarthy, Jim Jordan, Andy Biggs, and Scott Perry for defying subpoenas to testify about their roles in the attempted insurrection.”
