The Jan 6 Hearings Have Proven Trump And His MAGA Allies Planned, Promoted, And Paid For A Violent Criminal Conspiracy To Overturn The Election.
Over the past two months, the January 6th Select Committee has laid out, in great detail, the wealth of evidence that Donald Trump and his MAGA allies knowingly enacted a criminal conspiracy in order to overturn the results of an election they knew they lost. They are waging an ongoing plot to overturn the results of future elections they lose by tampering with witnesses, giving Republican legislatures the final say in who wins elections, and passing laws making it harder to vote.
The hearings have far exceeded expectations, showing without a doubt how important it is that those who conceived of and enacted this conspiracy must be held accountable. As the investigation continues, we must protect our rights and our country from people like Trump and his MAGA co-conspirators.
HEARING ONE: Trump “lit the flame” of the criminal conspiracy that led to the assault on our country.
- At the first hearing, we saw a preview of the Committee’s case that Trump and his MAGA allies planned and promoted the conspiracy to overturn the will of the people. Vice-Chair Liz Cheney laid out a preview of sworn statements from top Trump officials like former Attorney General Bill Barr (who called Trump’s claims of fraud “bullshit”) and Ivanka Trump.
HEARING TWO: Trump and his MAGA allies knew he lost but pushed conspiracy theories anyway.
- At the second hearing, the January 6th Select Committee presented evidence that Trump ignored the advice of his legal team and pushed election fraud claims he knew were false, even before the first votes were cast. Trump knew he lost, the people around him repeatedly told him he lost, and he still went forward with the criminal conspiracy to overturn the results.
HEARING THREE: Trump and his MAGA allies illegally pressured Mike Pence to overturn the will of the people.
- The third hearing detailed how in early January 2021, Trump attorney John Eastman drafted a memo that said the Vice President could unilaterally decide to overturn the election results and give Trump the presidency. Mike Pence’s lawyer, Greg Jacob, said that, “There is no justifiable basis to conclude that the Vice President has that kind of authority.” After Pence refused to comply, Trump sent a violent mob to the Capitol.
HEARING FOUR: They illegally pressured state legislatures and election workers to overturn the election.
- In the fourth hearing, an all-Republican panel first detailed Trump and his officials’ harassment of state legislatures and election officials in order to get them to overturn the results of the 2020 election, and an election worker and her mother described their experiences after they were falsely accused by Trump of meddling in the election.
HEARING FIVE: They illegally pressured the Department of Justice to help them overturn the election.
- At the fifth hearing, we learned how Trump pressured the DOJ to legitimize his lies and insane conspiracy theories about the election, giving Trump and his allies the pretext to overturn the election they lost. According to experts, these actions are criminal.
HEARING SIX: They knowingly sent an armed mob to the Capitol to prevent the peaceful transfer of power.
- At the sixth hearing, we heard from former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson how Trump and his staff were told that his supporters who came to the Stop The Steal Rally had weapons, including guns, and involved violent extremist groups. After being informed they had weapons, Trump encouraged his supporters with military-grade weapons to go to the Capitol anyway. The march on the Capitol was premeditated by Trump. Not spur of the moment as previously suggested by MAGA allies.
HEARING SEVEN: They were in contact with – and incited – extremist groups to come to the Capitol; and involved Republican members in the plot.
- In the seventh hearing of the January 6th Select Committee, we learned without a shred of doubt that Trump knowingly planned and promoted the violent attack on the Capitol in order to overturn the results of an election he knew he lost. After it became clear that he lost the election, Trump and his closest allies coordinated with violent extremist groups in order to plan the march on the Capitol.
HEARING EIGHT: Trump and his MAGA allies planned for and incited the violence to stop the transfer of power, watched it unfold, and made it worse.
- At the eighth hearing, we heard live testimony from former Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Matthews and former Deputy National Security Advisor Matthew Pottinger, who revealed that Trump ignored desperate pleas from across his administration and members of Congress, refusing to act in a 187-minute period of radio silence from the White House. This primetime hearing by the Select Committee brought together all the evidence proving that Trump and MAGA Republicans never intended to stop trying to overturn the will of the people — they provoked the violence, watched it unfold, and refused to call it off for over 3 hours.
