Former Trump Impeachment Co-Counsel and Obama White House Ethics Czar Norman Eisen Releases “Trying Trump: A Guide to His First Election Interference Criminal Trial”

Comprehensive Guide to the Landmark Case Includes Exclusive Content on Sentencing

Washington, D.C. – Today, Ambassador Norman Eisen (ret.) published his latest book, “Trying Trump: A Guide to His First Election Interference Criminal Trial.” It is a comprehensive guide for the press and the public to every aspect of the upcoming first-ever criminal trial of an American president that will begin in Manhattan on Monday, April 15. The book is based on Eisen’s thirty-plus years as a criminal litigator, his role investigating these identical allegations during the first Trump impeachment, his experience with the laws governing the presidency as Barack Obama’s White House ethics czar, and his extensive years-long research and writing about the case.

Eisen concludes that Trump likely faces conviction and a sentence of imprisonment based on the strength of the evidence and New York law, as comprehensively detailed in the book. He also thoroughly surveys Trump’s legal and factual defenses. Eisen explains that, despite the strength of the case, it is not a guaranteed “slam dunk,” and that the former president will also mount a vigorous defense.

“Trying Trump” is the most complete – indeed the only – guide to every aspect of the trial. It contains a full chronology of events drawn from court pleadings and hundreds of public record sources so that observers can understand what’s happening minute-by-minute as this historic trial unfolds. The book also includes 46 mini-essays on every legal issue expected to arise – and much, much more across its eight chapters.

As former United States Attorney and MSNBC legal analyst Barbara McQuade wrote in the foreword, “Eisen’s and his co-authors’ views on what will happen at every stage of the proceedings are an important contribution to the public understanding of one of the most consequential election and democracy trials in the history of our nation.”

In advance praise for the book, constitutional legal scholar and University President Emeritus at Harvard University Laurence Tribe called it an “amazingly clear and thorough blueprint.” Former Manhattan Chief Assistant District Attorney and CNN legal analyst Karen Agnifilo said the book is an “amazing resource to understand all things about the trial prosecuted by my old office. This trial bible gives you everything you need.”

The eBook and paperback editions are available here for $9.99. For press inquiries and/or a complementary digital or hard copy, please contact Maura McDonough at [email protected]

Advance Praise for “Trying Trump”

“Amazingly clear and thorough blueprint.” – Laurence Tribe, Carl M. Loeb University Professor emeritus and Professor of Constitutional Law emeritus at Harvard Law School

“For one of the most important trials the country will ever see, Norm Eisen has made the pleadings and the issues in the Manhattan DA’s case readily understandable as we get close to the start of trial.” – Joyce Vance, former U.S. Attorney, Distinguished Professor of the Practice of Law at the University of Alabama School of Law, and MSNBC legal analyst

“Amazing resource to understand all things about the trial prosecuted by my old office. This trial bible gives you everything you need.” – Karen Agnifilo, former Manhattan Chief Assistant District Attorney and CNN legal analyst

“Norm Eisen gives readers an actual trial notebook, setting out the strategic calls, evidentiary issues, theories of the case — as trial lawyers themselves bring to battle. It is invaluable.” – Harry Litman, former U.S. Attorney and Deputy Assistant Attorney General

“Everything you always wanted to know (‘But Were Afraid to Ask!’) about the case against Trump for election interference – great guide.” – Shanlon Wu, former Assistant U.S. Attorney and Counsel to the U.S. Attorney General

“In Trying Trump, former White House ethics czar Norman Eisen cogently explains the details of the first criminal trial of a former president in U.S. history. Falsification of business records to conceal any crime, including a violation of federal campaign finance laws, is a serious crime in New York. Eisen explains the evidence in this case, the likely prosecution and defense strategies, the importance of having an independent judge, and the unprecedented impact the verdict in this case will have on American democracy.” – Richard W. Painter, former chief White House ethics lawyer for President George W. Bush
